BIRDS IN ART by Instructor Artist Raquel Hinojosa

Artworks have featured birds for thousands of years, as shown in the Lascaux cave paintings made more than 17,000 years ago. Humans have long been inspired by birds, their ability to take flight, and the unique perspective they have on the world around us. Birds, in art, are often depicted to symbolize a certain aspirational quality.

The “Birds in Art” workshops will focus on the art of the bird dating back to cave paintings and throughout history as depicted by a variety of cultures.   Students will also learn about American artists, Alexander Wilson and John James Audubon and their contributions as ornithologists, naturalists and art illustrators.

Students will understand the elements of art as they become familiar birds in art, as depicted in a variety of styles throughout time. To understand, deftly critique, and practice an art form, students need to know the key concepts that art is built upon. Familiarity with elements of art (like color and line) and principles of art (proportion, rhythm, and contrast, among others) is what gives artists that fluency.   Students will learn and understand these elements as they create original works of art focusing on bird genre.

ANIMALS & INSTRUMENTS by Instructor Artist Lupe Hernandez.

Making music is a universal human trait that goes back to at least 35,000 years ago. Animals and Musical Instruments Art Studies will cover artwork that incorporates a fusion of animals with instruments, enabling Young Artists to create a new hybrid.Students will learn about instruments and animals from around the world as they collaborate their ideas to create their artwork.

Students explore, discover, problem solve, create and enjoy as they learn principles of art. Students who choose Drawing will experiment and work with pencils, color pencils and markers, on paper, as they learn Shapes, Forms, Proportion, Space and Shading.

Students who choose Painting will work with acrylics on canvas, learn the same principles as with Drawing and in addition Color Mixing, Color Blending, Paint Application and more.

These classes allow students to develop and improve their Drawing and Painting skills as well enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, improve critical thinking skills, lateral thinking, complex analysis and critical thinking skills.
