July 11, 18, 25 and 1, the Art of Yayoi Kusama
Students who sign up for these workshops, will learn a modern Japanese art method called “Superflat”. Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami, created this method which refers to various flattened forms in Japanese graphic art, animation, pop culture and fine arts. Students will become familiar with this modern method as they create original works of art inspired by two popular Japanese artists, Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama.
The artist for the month of July is Yayoi Kusama, She is a Japanese contemporary artist who works primarily in sculpture and installation, but is also active in painting, performance, film, fashion, poetry, fiction, and other arts. Her work is based in conceptual art and shows some attributes of feminism, minimalism, surrealism, Art Brut, pop art, and abstract expressionism, and is infused with autobiographical and psychological content. She has been acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan.
